Karynne O. Duncan, M.D.
Remembering Karynne O. Duncan, MD (1966 – 2026)
Dr. Duncan, founder of Duncan Dermatology in 2003, was a distinguished dermatologist with dual board certifications in Internal Medicine and Dermatology. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned her MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She completed residencies in both Internal Medicine and Dermatology, serving as chief resident in both programs at the University of Colorado and Yale University, respectively. Throughout her career, she built a practice grounded in excellence, empathy, and a deep commitment to improving the lives of her patients.
She remained active in academic dermatology, serving as a Director of the American Board of Dermatology and authoring several publications, including co-authoring the textbook Dermatology Essentials. Her expertise was widely recognized, earning distinctions such as “Best Doctors in America” and “The Bay Area’s Top Doctors Award.”
Beyond her medical career, Dr. Duncan was deeply committed to her community in Napa Valley. She served on the board of OLE Health, supporting access to healthcare for underserved populations, and co-chaired Auction Napa Valley alongside her husband in support of local health initiatives. Kary was honored by the V Foundation as the Vintner Grant Honoree twice, both at the Napa Wine Celebration and the inaugural Sonoma Epicuren fundraising event. Her leadership, generosity, and dedication to service left a lasting impact across the region.
At home in St. Helena, Dr. Duncan found her greatest joy in time spent with her family and in supporting the family’s wine business. As a cancer survivor, she approached life with gratitude and purpose, once sharing her desire to “channel my health issues into hope for others.” Through her involvement with the St. Helena Hospital’s Hereditary Cancer Consortium, she worked to do just that for the community she loved.
Dr. Duncan will be remembered for her intellect, warmth, resilience, and unwavering commitment to both her family and her community. Her legacy will endure through the many lives she touched.
